Bolton family collection, 1872-1940.

Chiefly photographs of Clarks Island as well as Briggs and Bolton family members in Duxbury (ca.. 1890-1910) with some postcards and 18 pieces of ephemera. Six of the photographs are of Duxbury school classrooms in the early 19th century. Many of the photographs are cyanotypes. Of particular interest are two cyanotypes, most likely taken by auxiliary fireman, Joseph F. Bolton, Sr., relating to the great Boston fire of 1872. Ephemera includes Beautiful Duxbury a poem by Lucy Porter Higgins (undated), check for $13.00 from the U.S. Navy to Joseph F. Bolton, III (1917 Apr. 14), invitation (1927 June 14) to commencement at Duxbury High School, program for graduation at Partridge Academy (1919 June 25), greeting cards, receipt, and other items. Subjects of postcards and photographs include boating scenes, Plymouth Rock, Standish Monument, local houses, hotels, and other buildings, the Briggs livery stable and garage, school pictures, local beaches, and women.
